I am not sure when I started making art and decided to be an artist, but I remember always wondering what the word, 'calm' meant when I was a kid, and ultimately, my quest to find calm was what brought me into the art world. The day I learned it was in a math class in high school. I started to draw, and for the first time in my life, my brain cleared, my shoulders relaxed, and I finally understood what it meant to feel CALM. Around this same time in my life, I discovered, and fell in love with, making art with people with developmental disabilities. From there, I went on to work with youth and women addicted to drugs, women in prison, young people of all sorts, educators, other artists, and people who struggle with mental health issues. Every piece of art I make is a reflection of the story of someone I meet. Their dreams, joys and struggles are often skipped over in our society, and I hate that. So, they live in my work.
